More Efex Applique Projects and Chandeliers!

Hi everybody! This is Cindy, she is one of two fabulous women that work
with me at Maison Decor in Reading MA.  I keep telling her she should go
make some big bucks being a model, don't you agree?  At any rate,
since she isn't pursuing a modeling career I am lucky to have her on our MD team.
This week we have been creating with Efex, the new line of latex appliques
that we now sell in our shop and online.  We plan to have a big display
in the shop showing examples of how different Efex appliques can work
on various things, like cabinet doors, mirrors, furniture and accessory pieces.
Here Cindy is going to work on a vintage medicine cabinet door frame.
Its a narrow oak trimmed mirrored door cabinet. Very plain, we will
dress it up a bit using Efex.  Cindy is putting two floral drops
on either side and one ribbon bow in the center at the top.
After the contact cement is applied to both the back of the applique
and the frame and we have waited 20 minutes, all that is needed is
to put them together and press to assure good contact.
Cindy presses down on the floral drop.
Here you can see the pieces are glued in place.  After about a half
hour the entire piece can be painted in your choice of color and paint brand.
We plan to use Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan, but you can use a primer and a
latex paint if desired.  Stay tuned as we did not get to that part....because we
were doing a bunch of other stuff that same day.
A new large cabinet that we are using to display the Efex is going to get an
extreme Efex makeover too!  We are starting out with a wide trim piece that has
swags and ribbons and decorative borders.  Cindy is shown applying pressure
to the trim piece as it has been glued and attached.  Paint will be the next step.
However, we plan to add more trim pieces, and that is something that will take us
a bit of time.  Doing projects in the shop is not the easiest thing to pull off
as we are often stopping to help customers or answer phones etc.
For now we had to walk away and we will get back
to this cabinet makeover next week, along with a couple other
projects using Efex, like the medicine cabinet mirror frame.
Next week I hope to introduce you to Gina, my other new addition
to our Maison Decor dream team.  She is amazingly talented and fun to work with.
And around the shop, this is the latest.
A few chandeliers arrived this week.  Take a peek at this great lineup!
They are all new reproductions of rustic style lighting.
The window display of lighting is ever changing as we sell
quite a few of these light fixtures.  And the pretty linen settee
is off to its new forever home~that sold yesterday.  So when a piece
sells, that means a new vignette will be in its place shortly.
For you Park Hill candle fans, our latest batch of seasonal scents
arrived yesterday as well.  We set up a pretty display using one of our
Decorator Wall Art Panels to line the shelves.  This pattern is called
English Floral.  Instant way to personalize a cabinet is to cut up
one of these large wall paper panels and stick on the back of any
open cabinet or bookcase.  We sell different ones in the shop and online.
When we created our front vignette we decided on a purple and green
color palette.  This table was formerly painted a grey using some of Annie's Chalk Paint.
But for our purple look, instead of repainting the entire thing, we did a wash
using a wet paint brush and a bit of Emile Chalk Paint on our brush.  Sloshing
it onto the table, adding more water on our paint brush and brushing it
around, then using a cotton rag to wipe it off.  I love how easy it is to create
a dramatic change using a color wash.  If you haven't tried doing a color
wash, I assure you it is very easy to achieve great results.
And to make it a bit more fun, I added some tiny old printing on the
surface in a random fashion.  How?  I just used a rubber stamp and an
ink pad! Then I sanded it out a bit to make it faded, and then I used a
clear coat topping, instead of wax for the finish coat.  I will write more
about the Clear Coat by Artisan Enhancements line.  We have it in the shop
and I will be adding it online as well. Its for interior use and dries crystal clear and matte.
Oh, and this table sold yesterday as well to one of our regulars, Karen.
Thanks for always popping in the shop and supporting our store Karen!
We constantly get new things in the shop, new old things, and new
repro things.  We have a big 5 foot dining room table and chairs in the
shop right now~don't you love eating at a round table? I do.
Not the best photo, but there it is...our store is stuffed to the gills right now.
So if you are local and you want something a little bit different
for your home, consider stopping in and seeing what we have.
How about a petite french drop leaf writing desk
as a nice addition to a bedroom?
Thats the scoop for this week, I hope to be back in action with
more blog posts next week.  My computer croaked off and I was
without it for ten days...that puts a crimp in my blogging for sure.
I will be working on a my favorite room post for a big blogger
I am sure you all know and love! Have a great weekend everybody!
